Porcelain Veneers

Chips, cracks, gaps, and stains can detract from your smile and leave you feeling self-conscious.

Thanks to IPS e.max® veneers, Dr. N. Summer Lerch can revitalize and rejuvenate imperfect teeth.

Learn why so many patients trust the Center for Esthetic Dentistry in New Haven, CT, for their porcelain veneers.

How Veneers Work

Dental veneers are thin shells made of tooth-colored materials. They are designed to mask cosmetic imperfections that affect the front surfaces of the teeth. A little bit of enamel (less than 1 millimeter) is removed from the tooth so the veneer fits properly. Placing one dental veneer or many veneers can give your smile a makeover.

From start to finish, the dental veneer procedure takes about two to three weeks. Our New Haven practice has helped many patients achieve stunning results with custom veneers.

Porcelain veneers are practically indistinguishable from natural teeth. With proper care, your veneers can last 10 years or longer.

The Benefits of Veneers At the Center for Esthetic Dentistry

Our New Haven practice works with Macstudio, a trusted lab at the cutting edge of cosmetic dentistry. We only use the highest quality porcelain to provide you with durable, natural-looking veneers. With an exquisite, pearl-like finish, our slim veneers mimic the look and feel of your teeth. There are many benefits to getting veneers at our practice.

Checkmark

Versatile Treatment

Porcelain veneers can conceal a variety of dental concerns. Thin veneer shells can cover discoloration, cracks, chips, and other damage to your teeth.

Checkmark

Long-Lasting

Unlike teeth whitening, which requires yearly maintenance and lifestyle changes for the best results, porcelain veneers can last over a decade when you take care of them.

Checkmark

Conservative Techniques

Our porcelain veneer shells are very thin, meaning only a small portion of your enamel needs to be removed. Once your enamel is gone, it can't grow back, which is why we use a conservative touch.

Checkmark

Natural Look and Feel

Porcelain has a slightly translucent, pearl-like appearance that light can travel through. This material gives your veneers a natural-looking appearance that mimics natural tooth enamel. They are also sturdy, just like natural teeth.

Dr. Lerch, Sheri, Karen and Rahishia, I cannot thank them enough. They were all very attentive, caring and professional. I had veneers that were nothing but unattractive and Dr. Lerch spoke with me and explained what she could do and asked if that was what I was searching for as a result. I walked out of her office today feeling like a new person! I am beyond happy and cannot wait for Covid to end so I can show off my new, bright smile underneath this mask! Thank you for helping me feel like me again.

What a wonderful dental practice! I’ve never received such amazing and personal care at a dentist office and/or most other medical offices. This team works well together and is happy to let you know as many details as you’re interested in knowing about what’s going on in your mouth. Everyone is on the ball, responsive, and just a pleasure to chat with! I rarely post reviews and found myself asking where I can do so for this office due to the high level of service I received. Thank you everyone and I look forward to my next cleaning ;)

Matt's case involved a multidisciplinary approach to dental care, combining cosmetic and restorative procedures and even some orthodontics. Thanks to custom-made veneers, Invisalign®, dental crowns, and a dental bridge, we were able to close gaps and create beautiful symmetry. The Center for Esthetic Dentistry in New Haven can give you a new smile.

The Advantages
of IPS e.max

/

While people use the phrase "porcelain veneers" as a catch-all, not all veneers are made of porcelain. Veneers can be made from porcelain, ceramics, resin, and other composite materials. To ensure the best possible results, our New Haven dental practice uses IPS e.max. IPS e.max is pearl-like and extremely durable. You can bite and chew normally and not have to worry about damaging your restorations. We use IPS e.max rather than composite resins because we want your dental work to last as long as possible.

Are There Alternatives to Veneers?

Minor dental flaws can be addressed by several cosmetic treatments, but porcelain veneers are known to provide exceptionally realistic-looking results. Learn what sets veneers apart from two common cosmetic alternatives: dental bonding and teeth whitening.

Veneers

Veneers vs. Bonding

While veneers and dental bonding address many of the same issues, veneers provide superior durability and esthetic value. Dental bonding uses composite resin, not porcelain, to conceal dental flaws. While many patients achieve excellent results with dental bonding, composite resin cannot compete with the incredibly natural appearance of high-quality porcelain. Veneers also last longer on average than the results from dental bonding. A bonded tooth will likely need a touch-up within three to 10 years, but with good care, you can expect your veneers to remain strong and beautiful for more than a decade.

Veneers vs. Whitening

Traditional teeth whitening can be extremely effective for many patients, but whitening services only correct surface-level discoloration, and teeth that have been whitened can quickly become stained again. Porcelain veneers mask deep-set staining under the surface of the tooth, which traditional whitening cannot improve. Veneers offer longer-lasting results and a way to conceal multiple dental flaws at once, while teeth whitening cannot address chips, cracks, or other issues. Our dentists are glad to help you determine which treatment is the best fit for your needs.

Tackle Multiple Restorative Concerns With a Full Mouth Reconstruction

Veneers may not always be the best solution to various dental concerns you want to correct. This patient transformed his smile with a full mouth reconstruction that involved periodontal gum cleaning, porcelain crowns, gold onlays on the back teeth, and porcelain veneers.

I sat up in the chair again yesterday and cried tears of joy for the amazing work Dr. Lerch did on my two front teeth. One was cracked; one was chipped. They look better than they ever did, and all the work was covered by insurance. She is an artist, and visiting this cozy and loving practice is always a great experience.

The Veneers Procedure

From start to finish, the dental veneer procedure takes about two to three weeks.

Day of Procedure

From start to finish, the dental veneer procedure takes about two to three weeks.

Consultation

During your initial consultation at our New Haven dental practice, Dr. Lerch will assess your candidacy for dental veneers. She will listen to your goals and help you understand your dental treatment options. We can use digital imaging and wax mockups so you can see what the outcome will be.

Prepping Teeth

If porcelain veneers are the right option for you, the next step is prepping your teeth. A small amount of enamel is removed from the front surface of the tooth. The process is virtually painless.

Taking Impressions

Once your teeth are prepped, impressions are taken of your teeth. We use the iTero® digital scanner, a small and comfortable intraoral scanner, to take detailed scans that are then sent to a dental lab.

Temporary Veneers

While the custom veneers are completed, patients will have temporary veneers placed. Be sure to follow our instructions for proper care to prevent these temporary veneers from getting dislodged.

Lab Fabrication

Using your digital impressions, the technicians at an off-site dental lab will create a custom dental veneer using IPS e.max. Their precision ensures a great fit and natural-looking restorations.

Permanent Veneers

When you return to our practice, we will remove your temporary veneers and adhere the finished IPS e.max dental veneers in place.

Veneer Aftercare Instructions

Practice Good Oral Hygiene

After porcelain veneers have been placed, patients should continue to brush their teeth at least twice a day and floss at least once at night. This removes food particles and prevents the formation of plaque that could affect the health of your natural teeth.

Avoid Tobacco Products

Porcelain veneers are stain-resistant, but your natural teeth can still become discolored. For long-lasting cosmetic benefits, it's important to quit using cigarettes, cigars, and chewing tobacco. We can point you to resources that can help you kick the habit.

Stop Other Bad Habits

In addition to quitting tobacco products, avoid bad habits that can potentially damage your dental veneers. This includes biting your fingernails, using your teeth to open packages, crunching on ice cubes, and chewing on pens or drinking straws.

Protect Your Face and Mouth

Mouth and face gear can protect you from injury and prevent trauma to your teeth and veneers. Consider an athletic mouthguard while playing sports, and always wear proper head or face protection at work or when doing any potentially dangerous tasks.

Schedule Regular Dental Checkups

Routine dental visits every six months will help you avoid common dental problems. It also allows us to catch any minor issues before they become major headaches. You can always contact Dr. Lerch and her team if any concerns arise between your visits.
