Don't I Need to See an Orthodontist to Straighten My Teeth?

While orthodontists are specially qualified to provide some orthodontic treatments, Invisalign is an orthodontic option that can give you the same fantastic results as traditional braces with supervision from your cosmetic dentist. Choose Invisalign to skip trips to the orthodontist and achieve a beautifully straight smile from a team focused on esthetics.

Dr. Lerch Is an AGD Fellow

There is no need to seek out an orthodontist when you can get treatment from a Fellow of the Academy of General Dentistry (AGD) like Dr. Lerch. Our dentist earned this special title by passing a rigorous Fellowship Exam and completing over 500 hours of continuing education designed to keep her at the forefront of dentistry.

Raheem's Invisalign Journey  How One of Our Patients Found His Smile

Raheem has always been passionate about inspiring his students. Still, he struggled to share his smile with them. Thanks to some help from Dr. Lerch and his Invisalign clear aligners, Raheem is now able to bring his smile back into the classroom again.

Did You Know Orthodontics Can Also
Improve Your Oral Health?

While most people undergo orthodontics to fix cosmetic concerns, treatment can also improve your oral health. When your teeth are evenly spaced, you can brush and floss more thoroughly and prevent tooth decay. Furthermore, clear aligners will properly align your bite, helping you avoid serious and painful jaw conditions.

Paying for the Cost Of Your Invisalign Treatment

Many insurance providers help to cover the cost of Invisalign just as they do for other orthodontic options like braces. Straightening your smile with clear aligners can cost between $1,999 and $5,999, depending on the time and number of aligners your treatment plan requires.

To help our patients manage out-of-pocket costs, we offer financing through CareCredit®, a leading healthcare lender that can help you break up the cost of treatment into smaller low-interest or interest-free monthly installments.

Am I a Candidate for Invisalign?

Teen with invisalign

Invisalign works well for the majority of our New Haven patients with mild to moderate dental misalignment. While traditional braces might still be the best option for severe cases, aligners can address most types of orthodontic concerns. Despite some common misconceptions, there is no age requirement for Invisalign and you are never too old to undergo treatment. As long as you have all your adult teeth and are responsible enough to wear the aligners, your age is not important. In fact, Invisalign can be a safer treatment option for younger patients who are active in sports and could sustain trauma from braces.

The best way to find out if you qualify for Invisalign is to schedule a consultation with Dr. Lerch.

Invisalign Attachments Make Straighter Teeth an Option for More Patients

Have you previously been told that you are not a candidate for treatment with Invisalign aligners because of the complexity of your dental issues? We have good news for you. Our New Haven, CT, team can use Invisalign attachments to treat more involved cases of misalignment than aligners can on their own. In essence, they allow your aligner trays to achieve a better "grip" on your teeth for more effective tooth movement.

Here are some of the ways aligner attachments can enhance your Invisalign experience:

Easy to Place

Invisalign attachments are small, resin-based spots placed on the teeth to help aligners stay in place. These tiny spots can be quickly and comfortably bonded to your teeth as part of a regular Invisalign appointment.

Virtually Unnoticeable

Invisalign attachments can be precisely color-matched to the natural shade of your teeth, making them just another discreet part of your treatment plan.

Leave No Trace

Once your orthodontic treatment with Invisalign is complete, your dentist will gently buff the attachments off the surface of your teeth, leaving no sign they were ever there.

Most patients will not require Invisalign attachments as part of their treatment plan, and we will only recommend attachments if Invisalign would not otherwise be an option for you. If your misalignment issues are too complex to be corrected even with the aid of attachments, we can refer you to a skilled orthodontist for treatment.

Invisalign Can Help Adult Patients of All Ages

Have you spent years wishing you'd had braces as a teenager?

It's not too late!

In fact, thanks to advances in orthodontic technology, tooth straightening options are more discreet and effective, giving you better options than ever before.

Patients of all ages can wear effective clear aligners from Invisalign, while still maintaining a professional appearance. Invisalign works to subtly refine your smile in a relatively quick amount of time.

With orthodontic treatment from Dr. Lerch, you can finally have the smile you've always wanted.

Patients Can See Swift Results From Invisalign Aligners

It's typical to start noticing a straighter smile within the first few weeks of wearing your aligners. Some of our patients finish wearing their clear aligners in just six months. Generally, though, you will need to use your aligners for about 12 to 18 months for the full treatment.

What to Expect During Treatment

Take a look at the steps involved in your Invisalign treatment at our New Haven, CT, dental practice.

If you wear your retainer and aligners as instructed, your results can last the rest of your life.
If you wear your retainer and aligners as instructed, your results can last the rest of your life.

After we examine your teeth during your consultation, Dr. Lerch will design your custom Invisalign system. We take precise impressions of your bite using our iTERO scanner and send them to the lab that produces your personalized clear aligners. When they are ready, you will return to the office for detailed instructions and your first set of aligner trays.

Wear your aligners for at least 22 hours a day, taking them off as needed to eat, drink liquids other than water, and brush your teeth. Each aligner is used for approximately two weeks and then switched out for the next in the series. The trays apply gentle pressure on your dental arches and gradually shift the alignment of your teeth and bite. Every few weeks you will come in for a checkup to ensure your results are progressing as intended.

Your treatment is complete once you finish with the last aligner in your series. After, you will no longer need to wear your trays during the day. Dr. Lerch will provide you with a retainer to continue wearing at night. If you wear your retainer as instructed, your results can last the rest of your life.

We Celebrate
New Smiles

When patients receive Invisalign treatment at our New Haven practice, the experience is anything but staid and clinical. We do our best to bring joy to your treatment journey. For example, we mark the end of major adult cases with a special Smile Styling appointment where we unveil the stunning results of Invisalign and celebrate with music and more.

How to Care for Your Beautiful New Smile

After Invisalign, you can maintain your results and overall oral health with just a few consistent practices.

Excellent Oral Hygiene

The most important thing you can do for your mouth is to practice good oral hygiene, brushing your teeth, tongue, and gums twice a day. You should also floss daily. Now that your teeth are straighter, you may notice that it's easier.

Proper Retainer Usage

Dr. Lerch will instruct you on proper retainer usage. It's simple to put it in each night, forget about it, and sleep comfortably. You should also clean your retainer each day, rinsing it and brushing away buildup with your toothbrush.

Regular Dentist Visits

You want your gorgeous smile to last — so dental visits are crucial. Ideally, you should visit the dentist every six months. This can help ensure that any problems you may have are spotted — and treated — as soon as possible.

Ask Us Questions

Empowering our patients to have healthy, stunning smiles is our biggest priority. We love hearing from you — and we're more than happy to answer any questions that you might have. So please, ask away!

"So fast and easy."

Frequently Asked Questions About Invisalign

How often will I have to come in for check-ins?

You can expect to come to our New Haven office once a month throughout the entirety of Invisalign treatment. At these appointments, Dr. Lerch will monitor your progress, make corrections if necessary, and provide your next set of fresh aligner trays.

Do you provide specialized retainers?

Generally speaking, yes. We provide Vivera® retainers, the brand recommended by Invisalign itself. These retainers, which are custom-fit to each patient's smile, are noted to be significantly stronger and more durable than other clear aligner retainers.

I had braces in the past. Can I still get Invisalign?

Absolutely. Many of our patients had braces in their youth but experienced teeth shifting as they grew older. Invisalign can be used to restore their teeth into a straight, beautiful smile they can proudly share.
