Porcelain Veneers

Porcelain veneers are simply defined as thin shells made of porcelain, that are bonded to the front of teeth. These dental veneers can conceal stains on the teeth, mask any stains or chips, correct misalignment of teeth, and help to create an even, perfect smile.

Many patients come into Nancy Summer Lerch, DDS, FAGD, AAACD’s Connecticut office thinking that nothing can be done for their smile. Maybe their teeth are severely stained. Maybe a patient has a few chips in some of the teeth. Maybe even multiple teeth are in less-than-ideal condition. Dr. Lerch knows how to transform smiles, with the help of porcelain dental veneers.

The Procedure

In as little as three visits, you can have a beautiful smile. Nancy Summer Lerch, DDS, FAGD, AAACD first consults with you and learn about the imperfections in your smile that need to be addressed. During this visit, all of your questions about the procedure will be answered, and Dr. Lerch can evaluate if porcelain veneers are the best resource to achieving your smile goals.

On your second visit, Dr. Lerch will prepare you teeth for the veneers. She removes about a .5 mm of enamel from the tooth surface. Next, molds are taken of your teeth so that your porcelain veneers can be custom tailored to your mouth. The molds are sent to our expert dental laboratory with your specifications and measurements. The veneers should be ready about two weeks later.

When the porcelain veneers are ready, you will come into the office for your third  visit. During this time, Dr. Lerch’s artistic and technical skills will both take center stage. Dr. Lerch fits the porcelain veneers so that they look natural and liking like they are only meant for you. The veneers will bond to your teeth with the help of a special bonding material and a light that activates the bonding material to keep the porcelain veneers in place.

Once all of the modifications have been completed, your smile is ready for your inspection. You will be able to see the dream smile right before your very eyes.

Nancy Summer Lerch, DDS, FAGD, AAACD might have you come in for another check-up visit, just to make sure that you are satisfied and happy with your new smile.  She will do a final exam and take final post-placement pictures.  A bite plate may be recommended as a way to protect your new smile over time.

Porcelain Veneer Durability

Porcelain-Veneers-New-Haven-CTOne of the main concerns that patients have about porcelain veneers is the durability of the shells. Most people worry that the veneers are prone to breakage and therefore do not last very long.

With today’s dental technology, these veneers have been created to last. With proper dental hygiene and care, porcelain veneers can last for years to come. While you do have to watch chewing on extremely hard foods, such as ice or hard candies (which are bad for natural teeth as well), you can live your life eating and drinking normally.

Porcelain veneers are stain resistant, so fears about drinking coffee or eating licorice can be tossed aside as well. In short, porcelain veneers give you the opportunity to eat, drink, and smile without hesitation.
